A new museum is underway, dedicated
to the history and contributions of the Estey Organ Company of Brattleboro,
Vermont, world-known for manufacturing reed, pipe, and electronic
organs and operating for nearly a century.
Organizers have set up a 501(3)(c)
non-profit corporation in the state of Vermont for the purposes
of building this museum in the historic slate-sided factory buildings
that still stand. We hope you will get involved in this noble effort
to preserve the instruments, the history, the stories, and the music,
of all those touched by Estey organs.
Contact
us anytime.
The museum is open 1 to
4 p.m. on Saturdays from June 20 through October 12, 2009. Guided
tours are available at 1pm with advance request by calling 802-246-8366.
Museum visits are available
by special arrangement. Call John Carnahan to arrange an off-hour
tour: 802-254-8398. If your organization or group would like
special arrangements, please contact us.
The Mission of the Estey
Organ Museum is to collect, preserve, and interpret the physical
and cultural heritage of the Estey Organ Company, and to promote
the continued use and enjoyment of Estey Organs.
Valerie Abrahamsen has
written an article called The
Children’s Organs of Estey Organ Company that explores
the small, fully-functional reed organs built for children by Estey.
The Engine House is just
the beginning. Please take a look at our Vision
Statement (pdf) to find out about some of our long-term plans.
You can help us make the full Estey
Organ Museum a reality here in Southern Vermont. There are many
ways to get involved:
- You can become a member
of the Estey Organ Museum.
- You can donate money to the
Estey Organ Museum.
- You can volunteer your time and expertise.
- You can contact us with your questions and comments.
If you're lucky enough
to already own an Estey Organ, of whatever vintage, be sure to visit
our Organs pages for additional
information. Note: we do not do appraisals or repairs.
Note: We cannot accept
organ donations at this time. Exceptions will be made for rare items,
so continue to send us information and photos about organs you are
hoping to donate. Donations of tools, paper, and other emphemera
are still beng accepted. We plan to have a new collections policy
in place by Summer 2009.
