ESTEY ORGAN MUSEUM BOARD MEMBER RECOGNIZED
Phillip Stimmel Receives Statewide Organist Award

Brattleboro, VT USA November 25, 2002 -- Estey Organ Museum Board member Philip L. Stimmel has been named Artist of the Year for the Vermont Chapter of the American Guild of Organists (AGO).

Mr. Stimmel performed a recital on Sunday, November 24 at Centre Congregational Church in Brattleboro before receiving a certificate and check from the AGO. Music performed included works of Bach, Clerambault, Bingham, Utterback, Mendelsson, Fletcher, and Liszt, and the event was attended by nearly 100 people.

After the event, the audience was invited to a reception featuring Estey Organ Museum displays, reed organ music, and refreshments.

Mr. Stimmel is a graduate of Drew University (Political Science & Economics) and the School of Sacred Music at Union Theological Seminary (Organ & Choral). He has served churches in New Jersey, Vermont and Massachusetts. He is a Past Dean of the VT Chapter of the American Guild of Organists, a member of the Board of the Estey Organ Museum, and owner of Windham Business Services in Brattleboro.

The pipe organ at Centre was originally built by the Estey Organ Company. However, it was extensively rebuilt by Steven Russell organbuilders a number of years ago, retaining a few of the original Estey pipes.

The Estey Organ Museum was founded in 2002 as a non-profit organization to celebrate the heritage of Estey Organ Company of Brattleboro, Vermont by the collection, restoration, display and performance of Estey and other organs; by the preservation, research, interpretation and dissemination of historical information about the company, its products and manufacturing practices, its owners, employees, markets, customers and competitors, and its effect in the context of Brattleboro and American history over time; and by the creation of a museum in which the aforementioned activities may occur.
